Stepinac Wins Archdiocesan Title

Archbishop Stepinac High School captured the Archdiocesan Tournament championship with a 51-40 boys basketball victory over Cardinal Hayes at Christ the King High School in Queens on Saturday.

Boogie Fland led Stepinac (24-3 overall) with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Isaiah Alexander contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists for the Crusaders, who also received six points, five assists and two steals from Danny Carbuccia. Samuel Gibbs had six points, six rebounds and three assists. Joel Baez added six points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Ben Lyttle finished with six points and eight rebounds.

Stepinac and Cardinal Hayes will be competing in the CHSAA City Championship tournament.

“We will enjoy this today and tomorrow and refocus Monday for a run at the City title,” Stepinac coach Patrick Massaroni told Catholic Sports Scene.
