Bosse Chooses Xavier

Clare Bosse, a senior swimmer at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at Xavier University on Friday.

Boose holds seven of the eight girls individual swimming records at Lourdes and four pool records at Poughkeepsie Middle School, where Lourdes swims its home meets.

Bosse is a six-time state finalist, eight-time Section 1 finalist and one-time Section 1 champion. She qualified for the state swimming and diving championship meet in all four years at Lourdes.

10 Iona Prep Stars Pick Colleges

Ten Iona Prep athletes committed to play athletics collegiately in the 2018-2019 school year with eight of the athletes signing a National Letter of Intent to play an NCAA Division I sport.

The athletes are Sam Bello, Maryland, baseball; William Citron, Cornell, soccer; Jack Cleary, Marquette, lacrosse; Chris DiFiore, Bucknell, baseball; John Hufnagle, Providence, lacrosse; Jack Keenan, Marist, baseball; Matt Minerva, Villanova, golf; John Nowak, Bates, baseball; Jake Pasacreta, Tampa, lacrosse; and John Screiber, Johns Hopkins, lacrosse.

In 2017-2018, 31 Iona Prep athletes committed to play on collegiate teams, 17 signed to play an NCAA Division I sport.

Senior Bowl on Sunday

The annual Catholic High School Football League of Metropolitan New York’s Senior Bowl is 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.

Admission is free.

The game features the top seniors in the league during the 2018 season.

The day begins with 9:30 a.m. Mass at Kellenberg, followed by the Communion Awards Breakast. Tickets for the breakfast, which are required for parents, coaches and players, are $20 per person and must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Jacket and tie are recommended for Mass and the breakfast.

Connolly Signs with Sacred Heart

Maeve Connolly, a senior at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s lacrosse at Sacred Heart University.

Connolly visited the university during her junior year and verbally committed to the school.

A two-time all-league player, Connolly is one of five girls in Lourdes history to score 100 varsity career goals. She has 103 goals entering her senior season.

Connolly will study either occupational therapy or physical therapy at Sacred Heart.

Damiani Off to Nyack

Lia Damiani, a senior at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division II softball at Nyack College in Rockland County.

Damiani, who pitched a no-hitter as a high school sophomore, received athletic and academic scholarships from Nyack, where she plans to study nursing.

Suarez Signs with Dominican

Alexis Suarez, a senior point guard at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School, signed a National Letter of Intent to play college basketball with the Dominican College Lady Chargers in Rockland County.

Suarez became the first varsity girls basketball player to score 1,000 career points, when she reached the milestone during a regular-season game in 2017-2018.

Nine Stepinac, Iona Prep athletes lead cast of CHSFL all-league honorees

Just days after winning a second consecutive Catholic high school state football title, nine Archbishop Stepinac athletes received all-league honors from the Catholic High School Football League of Metropolitan New York.

Malik Grant, Shawn Harris, Jonathan Mucciolo and Chris Wise are Stepinac seniors earning all-league offensive honors. Seniors Kevin Gray, De’Andre Smith, Doug Simmons, Joe Garbowski and junior Kevin McKenna were recognized for their work defensively.

Iona Prep also had nine players honored — Derek Robertson, Anthony Bonavita, Sean Fleming, Camari Glasgow, Franklin McFadden, Matt Parker, Jimaar Edwards, Charlie Stanton and Jayden Lambert.
