Padilla Wins Pro Baseball Title

Cardinal Spellman High School graduate Nicholas Padilla and his Hudson Valley Renegades teammates captured the New York-Penn League championship with a 6-0 victory over Vermont on Thursday.

The Renegades, the Class A short-season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, scored five second-inning runs off Parker Dunshee who had not allowed a run in 38 1/3 innings during the regular season.

Padilla pitched a shutout inning in a semifinal series against the Staten Island Yankees. For the season, he was 3-2 with a 2.38 earned run average, allowing nine earned runs on 34 hits and striking out 29 over 34 innings.
