Santini on Blues Playoff Roster

Steven Santini is playing for the St. Louis Blues in the NHL Playoffs.

Santini, who attended John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep, joined the team for the playoffs and was in uniform for his team’s 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild in the fourth game of a best-of-seven series on Sunday.  The series is tied at 2-2.

Santini, a second-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2013 NHL Draft out of Boston College, has played for the Devils and Nashville Predators before joining the Blue organization in 2020.

The 27 year old had two goals and 16 assists in 66 games in 2021-2022 for the Springfield Thunderbirds, the AHL affiliate of the Blues.

Santini’s grandfather, Bob, coached at Mount St. MIchael Academy in the Bronx and was the founder of the Catholic High School Hockey League. His father, Steve, played at Mount St. Michael and the University of Maine before coaching at Kennedy Catholic.

Santini, Devils Preparing for Season

Steven Santini and the New Jersey Devils report to camp Sept. 11 and begin preseason workouts the next day.

Santini, a graduate of John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers, signed a three-year, $4.25 million contract with the Devils in August. He will earn $1.1 million in the 2018-2019 season.

A second-round pick of the Devils in 2016, Santini split time with the Devils and their American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton last season. He finished with two goals and eight assists with the Devils, who were 21-8-7 in games with Santini in the lineup.

The Devils will play their first two preseason games on Sept. 17 when they host the New York Rangers and travel to Montreal to play the Canadiens.

Santini Heading to Buffalo

John F. Kennedy Catholic High School graduate Steven Santini is one of 27 prospects being sent by the New Jersey Devils to the Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, Sept. 8-11.

Santini, 22, is one of five players on the prospects roster to skate with the Devils last season. He was a second-round pick, 42nd overall by the Devils in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Devils open preseason camp on Sept. 15 and compete in its first preseason game on Sept. 18 against the Washington Capitals.

Newest Ranger Engaged

It’s been quite a month for New Rochelle’s Kevin Shattenkirk.

He grew up a Rangers fan and started the month by signing a four-year, $26.6 million deal to play with the Rangers.

Last week, Shattenkirk and his fiancee Deanna Abbey announced their engagement on social media with photos and a video.  Shattenkirk got down on a knee to propose to Deanna Abbey at Barcelona Cathedral. The two were in Europe to attend Alexander Steen’s wedding in Sweden. Shattenkirk and Steen were teammates with the St. Louis Blues.

And Tuesday, Shattenkirk met the New York media and was given a No. 22 Rangers jersey. Shattenkirk’s favorite Ranger was Brian Leetch, who had his No. 2 retired by the organization.

Shattenkirk, whose mom Barbara is a teacher at an archdiocese school, is one of three NHL players from the Hudson Valley — joining John F. Kennedy Catholic grad Steve Santini of the New Jersey Devils and Irvington High School graduate Brett Pesce of the Carolina Hurricanes. At 28, Shattenkirk is the oldest of the three NHL defenders.
