Santini on Blues Playoff Roster

Steven Santini is playing for the St. Louis Blues in the NHL Playoffs.

Santini, who attended John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep, joined the team for the playoffs and was in uniform for his team’s 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild in the fourth game of a best-of-seven series on Sunday.  The series is tied at 2-2.

Santini, a second-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2013 NHL Draft out of Boston College, has played for the Devils and Nashville Predators before joining the Blue organization in 2020. 

The 27 year old had two goals and 16 assists in 66 games in 2021-2022 for the Springfield Thunderbirds, the AHL affiliate of the Blues.

Santini’s grandfather, Bob, coached at Mount St. MIchael Academy in the Bronx and was the founder of the Catholic High School Hockey League. His father, Steve, played at Mount St. Michael and the University of Maine before coaching at Kennedy Catholic.

Doubleheader at Dutchess Stadium

Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill will be the site of Catholic school baseball doubleheader on Friday, May 6.

Two CHSAA programs–John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep and Archbishop Stepinac– will meet at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., two NYSPHSAA schools–Albertus Magnus and Our Lady of Lourdes–will compete.

Dutchess Stadium is the home of the Hudson Valley Renegades–the High A affiliate of the New York Yankees. 

Kennedy Catholic Prep Graduates Meet in College Lacrosse Battles

John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep graduates PJ Wu and Jack McInerney met twice on opposing sidelines in recent weeks.

Wu and Northeastern came out with 16-11 and 17-10 wins over McInerney and UConn on April 16 and April 30.

In the match on April 16, McInerney finished with three goals and two assists.

Wu and McNerney, 2021 Kennedy Catholic graduates, were members of four consecutive CHSAA City Championships for the Gaels.


DeMaro, Maccia Net All-State Honors

John S. Burke Catholic High School’s Jake DeMaro and John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep’s Arturo Maccia earned all-state basketball honors from the New York State Sportswriters Association.

DeMaro, a 5-foot-8 junior, averaged 15.0 points per game in receiving fifth-team honors in Class B.

Also in Class B, Maccia was an honorable mention pick.

The state sportswriters association released its all-state selections for Class B, C and D. The Class AA and A all-state picks are scheduled to be announced on April 27.

Raucci Heading to Hartwick

John F. Kennedy Catholic’s Kayla Raucci signed to play collegiate field hockey at Hartwick College in Oneonta.

Raucci was a four-year starter on defense and a team captain at Kennedy Catholic.

“Kayla exemplifies all you would want in a student-athlete,” said Kennedy Catholic field hockey coach Amanda Spano. “Hard work inside and outside of the classroom, a born leader. Kayla will be a great addition to the Hawks!”

Hartwick competes in the NCAA Division III’s Empire 8 Conference and finished 11-5 in 2021.

Suarez Completes Season

John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep graduate Alexis Suarez completed her red-shirt sophomore season with the Dominican College women’s basketball team averaging 12.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game.

The guard, who now has 589 career points and was named CACC Player of the Week back in November, shot 41 percent from the field, 24 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 76 percent from the free-throw line.

Dominican finished 14-14 overall and with losses in its last three games after winning seven of its previous eight games.

Selinger Heading to Swarthmore

John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep senior Caroline Selinger will be playing basketball at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, the school announced.

The point guard is a third-year starter for the Kennedy Catholic Prep girls basketball team, which will host Moore Catholic in the CHSAA playoffs on Tuesday, March 1 at 6:15 p.m.

Swarthmore competes at the NCAA Division III level and is a member of the Centennial Conference.


Mittag Off to Springfield

John F. Kennedy Catholic Prep’s Nick Mittag has signed to play lacrosse at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

Mittag was a four-year starter and played on four CHSAA City Championship teams at Kennedy Catholic Prep.

Springfield is an NCAA Division III program that competes in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. In limited action due to the covid pandemic, the Pride finished 0-3 in 2021 and 0-4 in 2020.

Springfield, which finished 11-10 in 2019, opens its 2022 season on Saturday when it hosts Nazareth.
