Kennedy Claims Soccer Title

John F. Kennedy Catholic High School captured its second consecutive CHSAA A Intersectional Boys Soccer Championship with a 1-0 victory over Msgr. McClancy at Fordham University on Saturday.

Connor Trainor scored off an assist from Liam Mulholland for the Gaels. Luke Tomaszewsky had the shutout in goal.


Soccer Clinic at Mount Academy

Ulster County CYO and the Mount Academy boys and girls soccer programs are teaming up for the youth soccer clinic at Mount Academy from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 24.

The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14. The cost is $5 per child. George Vizvary, the coach at Mount Academy, was the longtime coach at Ulster County Community College, winning national titles, and he also coached at the pro level.

Nine Stepinac Athletes Sign

Nine Archbishop Stepinac High School athletes recently signed letters of intent to compete at the collegiate level.

The following athletes signed: Chris Fowx, football, Temple; Shawn Harris, football, Stony Brook; Jonathan Mucciolo, football, Sacred Heart; James Prince, football, Howard; Chris Fox, baseball, Dominican; Jonathan Delango, baseball, College of Mount St. Vincent; Dom Nicolo, baseball, Southern Connecticut State; Chris Sharkey, lacrosse, Vermont; and Denzel Monexant, soccer, Delhi.

Earlier in the school year, three Stepinac baseball players — Izaiah Walker, Southern Connecticut State; Nicholas Venuti, Mount St. Vincent; and Michael Bacchetti, Fairfield — signed letters of intent.

Regis Moves into First Place

The Regis High School boys soccer won at Iona Prep, 2-0, on Thursday to take over sole possession of first place in the Archdiocesan AA Varsity Division.

Regis is 8-2 overall, followed by Msgr. Farrell at 7-2-1. The two teams will meet on Oct. 11 on Randall’s Island.

Mount St. Michael Wins Soccer Title

Jaime Carillo scored a goal and added two assists as Mount St. Michael Academy captured the CHSAA City B boys soccer championship with a 3-1 victory over All Hallows at SUNY Maritime on Sunday.

Solomon Castro and Jordan Wilson each added a goal for Mount St. Michael, which received seven saves from goalie Tajae Byrd McClean.

It was the third city championship for the Mount St. Michael boys soccer program.
