Siegrist Wins 10th Freshman Honor

Our Lady of Lourdes High School graduate Maddy Siegrist tied a conference record when she received Big East Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week honors for the 10th time this season.

Winning the rookie honor for a 10th time ties Siegrist for the conference record with Connecticut’s Maya Moore (2007-2008) and Georgetown’s Natalie Butler (2013-2014).

The Villanova University freshman averaged 21 points and 7.5 rebounds in games against Xavier and Butler.

Siegrist leads the Big East with her 20.2 points per game.  In conference games, she’s third with 18.3 points per game and second with 9.2 rebounds per contest.

Villanova is seventh in the Big East standings with a 13-11 overall record and 7-6 conference mark.  The Wildcats play Sunday at Georgetown.

New Gym at Our Lady of Grace

Elijah McGhee is shooting a basketball through a rim 10 feet above a gym floor instead of a garbage can sitting on a cafeteria floor now that Our Lady of Grace School in the Bronx has a gym to call home.

The Jaguars hosted their first basketball games Dec. 22 after playing all road games a season ago when the fifth- and sixth-grade and seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ teams went undefeated against opponents from the Bronx and Westchester County.
