Our Lady of Lourdes High School will not participate in low- and moderate-risk winter sports due to the recent surge in the COVID virus, according to a note from Athletic Director William Kyle on the school’s website.
“Due to the recent surge in the COVID virus and the necessity to act with an abundance of caution for the safety of our student athletes, Our Lady of Lourdes High School has made a decision to not participate in low and moderate risk winter sports this winter season,” Kyle said in his note.
Low- and moderate-risk sports at the school are fencing, indoor track and boys swimming. High-risk winter sports–basketball, competitive cheer, wrestling and hockey– remain postponed throughout the state until further notice by the New York State Department of Health.
Lourdes is a member of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association with three other Catholic high schools in the archdiocese — John S. Burke in Goshen, Albertus Magnus in Bardonia and The Ursuline School in New Rochelle.
Lourdes also has postponed any off-season conditioning programs and open gyms until further notice, Kyle said in the note.
