Citron Wins Top Honor

Sonia Citron received New York State’s Class AA Girls Basketball Player of the Year from the New York State Sportswriters Association.

The 6-foot-1 junior guard helped The Ursuline School to a 24-0 record and 2019-2020 Section 1 championship in 2019-2020.

Citron announced earlier this month she will attend the University of Notre Dame in 2021-2022.

Citron was one of 11 Catholic High School players in the archdiocese to be recognized by the state sportswriters association. Joining Citron are:

CLASS AA: Paulina Paris, Albertus Magnus, second team; Ava Learn, Our Lady of Lourdes, third team; Alexa Mustafaj, Ursuline, ninth team; Tanasha Mills, Albertus Magnus, 13th team.

CLASS A: Amber Abusbeih, Moore Catholic, third team; Ashley Marrocco, St. Joseph by-the-Sea, sixth team; Jordan Welle, Moore Catholic, ninth team; Gianna Samuels, Notre Dame Academy, 13th team; Shanice Sinclair, Cardinal Spellman, 15th team.

CLASS B: Marie Cari, Notre Dame School, eighth team.
