John F. Kennedy Catholic High School graduate Gavin Garay and the Brooklyn Cyclones captured the New York-Penn League championship with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Lowell Spinners on Tuesday night.
Trailing 3-2, the Cyclones scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
Garay, 22, hit .253 with five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI in his third season of professional baseball. He was a 26th round pick of the New York Mets in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.
The Cyclones are a Class A short-season affiliate of the Mets, and the Spinners are a Class A short-season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
