Archbishop Stepinac will look to win a second consecutive and third Catholic high school state football championship in four years when it hosts Buffalo regional champion St. Francis at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Crusaders beat St. Francis, 42-28, in the 2015 state title game.
Stepinac earned a berth in the state title game with a 29-18 victory over Cardinal Hayes in the Catholic High School Football League of Metropolitan New York AAA League championship game last Saturday. Shawn Harris caught seven passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns, and ran three yards for a third touchdown. Quarterback Joe Carino completed 10 of 16 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns. Kevin McKenna had 15 tackles, and Zach Barnes and Mekhi Green each added 10 tackles.
St. Francis has won three straight and holds a 5-6 record. The Red Raiders defeated Canisius, 20-16, for the Msgr. Martin High School Athletic Association championship Nov. 10 to earn the spot in the state championship game.
