High School Season Approaching

With schools opening next week, it means the 2018 fall high school sports season also is kicking off.

Here are a few things to note:

— Catholic High School Football League of Metropolitan New York starts its season with a full weekend of games Sept. 7-9. Defending state champ Archbishop Stepinac hosts CD East (Pa.) Sept. 8. Click here for the complete schedule.

— Girls volleyball is off when school opens. On Sept. 4, Maria Regina (CHSAA) hosts The Ursuline School (NYSPHSAA) in a non-league battle. Click here to look ahead to some of the big matches.

— In boys soccer, Regis, St. Peter’s and Mount St. Michael Academy are coming off championship seasons.

— In cross country, the Notre Dame Academy girls will be pursuing a fifth consecutive CHSAA intersectional state championship, and Xavier boys will be looking to win a third straight CHSAA intersectional state championship. The 2018 CHSAA intersectional state meet will be Nov. 10 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
