Archbishop Stepinac High School won the program’s first Archdiocesan Boys Basketball Tournament since 1984 with a 78-62 victory over Cardinal Hayes at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx on Saturday.
Alan Griffin had 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Crusaders (22-5), who also received 22 points, four rebounds and four steals from RJ Davis. Adrian Griffin Jr. added 20 points and five rebounds.
Tyreese Williams led Cardinal Hayes with 20 points, followed by Joe Toussaint’s 15 points.
Stepinac and Cardinal Hayes will be competing in the CHSAA intersectional tournament to determine the Archdiocese of New York/Diocese of Brooklyn representative in the state tournament. Both teams will be playing quarterfinal games on Sunday at Fordham University.
