Stepinac Wins State Title

Archbishop Stepinac High School scored 26 unanswered points in rallying back from a 14-9 halftime deficit to defeat Canisius, 49-28, for the New York State CHSAA football championship in Buffalo on Saturday.

The Crusaders won their second state title and avenged a 23-10 loss to Canisius in the first state final in 2014.

Trailing 14-9, Trill Williams caught a Michael Nicosia and took it to the end zone to complete a 61-yard play that gave Stepinac a 16-9 lead.

The Crusaders never relinquished their lead and it was the first of three second-half touchdowns for Williams, who will attend Syracuse in 2018.
