Dave Rocco scored two goals, including the game-winner with 12 minutes remaining, as St. Peter’s Boys High School tipped John F. Kennedy Catholic, 3-2, for the CHSAA City A boys soccer championship at SUNY Maritime on Sunday.
St. Peter’s, which won its first City Championship in 11 years, rallied from a 2-1 deficit, playing a man down for the final 30 minutes. Mike Giannino scored the tying goal on a penalty kick and assisted on Rocco’s two goals.
Guiseppe Antonacci made 10 saves for the Eagles, who finished the season at 17-2-3 overall and 14-0-3 against CHSAA opponents.
“This team is special,’’ said St. Peter’s co-coach Christina Monzi-Sanger. “They came together so well as a unit and they wanted this more than anything.’’
