Cardinal Spellman High School graduate Nicholas Padilla has allowed only one earned run over his last 20 innings and holds a 0.86 earned run average for the season with the Hudson Valley Renegades, the New York-Penn League Class A short-season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Padilla, 20, has scattered 18 hits and struck out 18 in 21 innings this season. Last season with the Gulf Coast League Rays, he was 0-2 with a 2.01 ERA.
The 2014 graduate of Cardinal Spellman pitched four games at Grayson College, a community college in Texas, before needing Tommy John surgery in 2015. The Rays selected him in the 13th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.
