John F. Kennedy Catholic High School graduate Gavin Garay has signed with the Mets and was sent to the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League.
The Appalachian League is rookie league level baseball, one step below the New York-Penn League, a Class A short-season league that includes the Brooklyn Cyclones (an affiliate of the Mets). Kingsport starts its season tonight.
Garay, who resides in Dutchess County, was selected in the 26th round, 787th overall by the Mets in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft. He received a $75,000 signing bonus.
