Joe DiBenedetto became the second former Msgr. Farrell High School student to be selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft when the Blue Jays chose him in the 29th round, 879th overall, out of Nova Southeastern University.
DiBenedetto played for two seasons at Seton Hall before transferring to Nova Southeastern, a NCAA Division II school located in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. DiBenedetto played his final three seasons of high school baseball at Tottenville High School on Staten Island.
Earlier in the day, Msgr. Farrell graduate and Manhattan College pitcher Tom Cosgrove was selected in the 12th round by the Padres.
